In this course you will be taught the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response to a casualty including CPR, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
 
Duration & Cost

First Aid course delivery: Training and assessment is delivered in class which will have a duration of 5 hours. The online pre-work component is to be completed by each student before the scheduled class.

The online component will take approximately 30 minutes to complete

What is the On-line study component?
The online pre-work component consists of a series of questions to be answered by each student to demonstrate their understanding of First Aid. Course material is provided to assist with completing these questions.

This component must be completed and submitted at least 2 business days before the student is scheduled to attend the class. The content of the online component will be discussed in further detail by the Trainer during the class.

Details on how to access the online pre-work component will be provided to each student once the enrolment process has been finalised.

• HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (Release 5)
• HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (Release 4)
• HLTAID003 Provide First Aid (Release 6)
Course Covers
  • How to respond to an emergency situation
  • What is DRSABCD
  • How to perform CPR
  • Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • How to communicate details of the incident
Recognition and management of
  • Choking and Shock
  • Drowning
  • Injuries from head to toe
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Burns, poisons, bites and stings
  • Exposure to heat and cold
  • Medical emergencies: chest pain, asthma, anaphylaxis, stroke, seizures, fainting, diabetes
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Fractures, strains, sprains and dislocations
Course Requirements
  • All Students completing this course must have moderate English.
  • You need to demonstrate a 2 minute continuous period of performing CPR on an adult manikin which must be placed on the floor. So you need to be able to get on your knees to perform CPR on the adult manikin. There are no other medical requirements.
  • Students don’t need to bring any materials or equipment with them to the course.
  • All Students must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to enrolling in and attending their course. You can apply for your USI here.
Course Assessment
  • Demonstration of practical skills. It is a requirement that CPR be demonstrated for a minimum of 2 minutes on the floor using a manikin, if this is not achieved you will not be marked as competent.
  • Role play/scenario work

Award issued
Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:
• HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (Release 5)
• HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (Release 4)
• HLTAID003 Provide first aid (Release 6)
Recertification Requirements
  • HLTAID003 Provide First Aid & HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support component of this course is valid for 3 years
  • The CPR component, HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation must be updated annually
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is not offered for this course.
